'Nsync and Wolverine!

Here's an oldie from 2001. Wolverine #168. I'm a big fan of hiding stuff in the comics I draw. Sometimes it's blatant cameos. In this particular issue, I put Chris and Justin from 'Nsync, Ali G, Josh Keaton, Joe Mulvihill, Lonny, Brian Truman, Ryan O'Brien, Cain, and the little dude from Bloodsport in. It's always been an extra bonus for me to put easter eggs in my work and this issue was jam packed. I was fortunate enough to get some of my cameo guests to sit for reference photos.

Below are the pencils, layouts and the ref photos for the book.

FIGHT!

It's a simple concept. 2 Combatants, 5 items, 1 location, and a fight to the death. The first one out will be an 80 year old war vet, versus an 8 year old black belt. You'll have to stay tuned to find out what they fight with and where. I have a Facebook page dedicated to it; you can find it here

Here are some of the sketches I've got brewing in an effort to warm up my skills. Also, it's important to note that I'll be doing each episode with different tools. Sometimes marker, brush, digital or all of the above. Anyhow, enjoy.

Rise of the Silver Surfer

I remember the 7th grade; a kid brought an actual copy of Fantastic Four #1 to school. It was a classic story: his grandparents found it perfectly wedged between some magazines in the attic. I was impacted by this in two ways; I became a Fantastic Four fan and I always asked my grandparents if I could go look through the attic in hopes to find some unknown treasure! (to this day, I think attics contain pirate maps and mint condition comics) true story.

Anyhow, when I was asked to work on FF2, I was thrilled.

As promised, here are some of my Fantastic Four storyboards.

Pretty soon, I'll post new stuff.....

Unpublished Covers

A friend of mine was pitching a movie, for his pitch he wanted to have some comic book style art.

Below are the roughs and final versions of the covers. The roughs were done on 3X5 index cards and the finished versions were done digitally in Photoshop using custom brushes.

Enjoy.

MY ADIDAS

In 2004 I worked on an Adidas campaign featuring some European Football action. I remember this one in particular because it had a story dealing with gameplay on the pitch. Now anyone who knows me well, knows that I know nothing of most sports, so for me I was just trying to draw cool shots. When I submitted the first pass, I was told that they were all wrong, that the geography wasn't consistent and that basically I had my head up my ass as far as soccer goes. I was given a quick lesson on how the game worked and more importantly where the stuff was happening on the field. Now here is why I remember this job: before this, I hadn't really thought of geographical continuity. I know that sounds crazy, but hey, I started at Extreme Studios where most fight scenes took place in ambiguous spaces;) It was Michael McQuahe who gave me the lesson in geographical continuity. After that point, I made a concerted effort to make sure that every job I worked on had it. So McQ, I am eternally grateful to you.

Here's the spot.

Enjoy.

Ghostbusters! (Sorta)

Back in 2008, I was called to work on a Citroen commercial featuring a Ghostbuster's theme. C'mon! Who doesn't love the Ghostbusters? This job was a bagful of challenges that had me super excited to do it. I was asked to design the monster, the Ghostbusters, and do the storyboards. Below, are some of the designs, the rough boards, final boards, and the commercial as it aired in Europe.

Enjoy.
